Global Warming and Friendships Forming
We started the day off with the typical breakfast and a delayed departure from the Nehemiah Center. We knew there would be heavy traffic like yesterday morning, but there was no need to worry because Lester our chauffer is a very good driver and knew some back roads that got us to the school on time. Lester and his driving skills have earned him "Lester's Lane", which is imaginary lane that goes between the two actual lanes. Once we arrived at the school we went to the grade 11 classroom for a very well thought out devotion presented by a third of the grade 11 Nicaraguan students. From there we spilt into multiple groups and went to visit a house of one of the students. I had a great experience at the home I visited. I got to meet most of the family, including their five dogs and bird. The parent were incredibly friendly and easy to interact with. The father shared his powerful testimony and how through his experiences and his daughter, him and his household were lead to the Lord. I was intrigued by the family's road to the Lord, and it was a good reminder for me that the Lord can work through the hard times in our live to bring us to him. I was also amazed by the commitment they have for the Lord. Not only do they go to church on a very regular basis, they also hold mini church services and small group meetings in their home where they can reflect on the Word. When the time came to head back the school we thanked the family and went on our way. At the school we were given questions on global warming, and together as a group we worked to answer each one. I learned a lot more about how global warming effects both Canada and Nicaragua, and in very different ways as well. We got the opportunity to share our learning with the rest of the groups, trying to have an answer in both Spanish and English. From there we got to eat lunch at the school with the grade 11 students, followed by playing lots of Uno and trying to teach Dutch Blitz. There were lots of laughs as well learned together. In the afternoon we walk to a near by park to hang out and play some sports. I played a unique version of volleyball where there was almost no rules, no net, only boundaries. It was different compared to the type of volleyball I am used to, but it is just as fun while being filled with laughs and funny mishaps. Many people came together to play a intense game of basketball. While others hung out or kicked a soccer ball around. To end the afternoon off some of us played a game of soccer. I found it really fun, but felt bad when I accidently kicked the ball away from my own teammate. After the fun filled afternoon we topped it off with a stop at the store. We restocked our supply of ice cream, cookies, Gatorade and a lot of other sugary snacks. We had guests for dinner, and the husband gave us a very interesting history lesson on Nicaragua. We did our daily debrief of the day, which was filled with many highlights and from there we wrapped up day six of the Nicaragua trip!
