Have we got a show for you... (cue veggie tales)
Starting off our morning bright and early at 6am is always the best way to start our morning. (incoming sarcasm) We were all getting out of our beds getting dressed and ready for our delicious breakfast of pancakes, eggs, fruit, and orange juice. Mornings are always the best with our team because we laugh about the most random things, and its probably because we're overtired. We left at 7 and drove through the busy morning Managua traffic, the Managua traffic is always the worst. Shoutout to Lester for getting us there safely and on time. After an hour of driving, we finally got to the school and went to the grade 11 class. Jayden and Sam did the devotion for the class today and wrapped it up with prayer. After we headed to the kindergarten class and handed out cards for them from our school. Seeing the reaction of the children receiving the cards was amazing to watch because they were all so happy. When we finished we split up into groups and went to the grades 7, 8, 9, and 10's to hand out their letters and they had time to ask us some questions and we would ask them questions. Break time was next, this was honestly the most chaotic time period during school, but it was so fun and I got to meet new students. Everywhere you go there is always screaming and running, but there was bonding to it, and that's what matters most on our trip, to bond with one another and build relationships. I've met so many more students because they would always come up to me with hugs, signatures, pictures, and ask to play games. However, there were many language barriers while interacting because a lot of them can't understand English, but the best thing to do is smile, and nod. I left the craziness and headed to the kindergarten classes to hang out with them for a change. Little did I know these kindergarten kids are REALLY hyper and energetic. About 15 kids jumped on top of me tickling me to death and I tried to find a way to break free from them. I tickled them and broke free and they all decided to chase after me! How much more energy do they have! Thankfully the bell rung and all the kids ran and screamed back to their classes, phewf screaming finally stopped. We met up with the grade 11 class and split into 5 groups for a Bible "lesson/game" I guess, I wasn't 100% sure though but it was still a lot of fun. It was lunch time and all the grade 11's left to go home and our group, teachers, and translators stayed to eat lunch. Can you guys guess what we ate? Hmmmmm? Oh, rice and beans. But we've gotten use to the rice and beans, there was also some sort of beef, zucchini with goat cheese, and boiled banana or boiled plantain, we weren't sure. The food was really good though not going to lie! One of our translators Vincent, talked about his personal life and what his role is in the community. Hearing what he does in Nicaragua and also hearing about his past was so powerful, I couldn't believe how strong he is in his faith. Vincent's story will be one I'll never forget. (fun fact he's actually a Christian rapper and his music is amazing!) We finished lunch and made a circle of chairs and all the teachers and people who work at the school gathered together for a Spanish-English talk. We talked about our faith, our schools and how much all the teachers appreciated their students and how much they really care about them. We then played some games together and we all got to know each other a bit more better. Finally it was time for the talent show! Everyone got to perform something and boy was that a show. The Nicaraguan students all performed a cultural dance, sang some songs, rapping, reading a love poem, and performed their "version" of the chicken dance. It was odd because if you compare it to our version of the chicken dance it's VERY different. Us Canadians performed the Cha-Cha-Slide, did some acrobatic tricks, a deep poem of beans and rice, singing songs and dancing to the chicken song. Today was such an amazing day spending with the grade 11's and showing each other our talent that God has given us. School finished and we headed on our back to the Nehemiah Centre, we had so many laughs and memories such as trying to open the water bottles with our nose, taking selfies with everyone that's sleeping and maybe include the good ol' "old coconut". After the drive home we made it back to our place and played some Slap Jack. One of the funniest moments happened when the Joker card came up, you have to stand up, spin around and sit back in your chair. Well, Miss Kampen stood up, spun around and as she sat down the leg of the chair broke and fell. We all fell and laughed until we cried. Tonight has been such an incredible night being with everyone and spending time with them. I can't wait to see what our next few days being together will look like and where God will lead each of us. Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts
for us! Buenus Noches!
